Mediterranean
Social Forum In June 2005 two society
members travelled to Barcelona to attend the Mediterranean Social Forum. This
forum brought many European based human rights organisations together, organisation
working across a broad range of themes and issues. At this conference a strong
link was developed with Palestine solidarity groups working in the Spanish
State and have since borne fruit through sharing information and projects.
Recently an article written by a Basque colleague was published in Daily Ireland
and can be viewed here.
America
In July 2005, at the invitation of Jewish Voices for Peace, society member
Sean O'Carroll attended the annual conference of the US Campaign to End the
Occupation in Atlanta, Georgia. Speaking at the opening session of the conference
on a panel entitled "Linking Human Rights Struggles", the theme
of the UL Society's speech was of linking the historical situation in Ireland
with current day Palestine. We hope to continue to work with many American
organisations in the future. A full text of the presentation made at the conference
can be viewed here.
Britain
Two society members have just returned from a conference entitled "Palestine,
Israel and International Law" organised by the British Palestine Solidarity
Campaign and held in London on October 22nd 2005. A full conference report
can be read here.
