Dennis Allen first came to
prominence as a musician in the 1970's when
he played with the Sean O'Dowd band, Dingaling. He achieved fame
in
1979 when he composed what is now regarded as the anthem of
Limerick,
"Limerick You're my Lady". The song was originally
composed as a theme
song for the limerick Lady competition in 1979. Dennis's aim was
to reflect the
beauty of Limerick city with it's churches and the Shannon river
included in the
song. It was recorded in the Lombard Recording Studio, Dublin and
got instant
recognition on the airwaves. Denis also composed a number of
other songs
including "Shannon River", "Lonely in London"
which was a major hit for the
Fury's and "Beautiful Peace" which was recorded by
Tommy Drennan".
