Whelans and onwards...
Big thanks to everyone who came to our Whelans gig on Thurs 5th Oct. It was definitely our favourite gig in Dublin in the history of giveamanakick existence! Also, thanks a million to Seadog and Dryad's Saddle for playing with us too, deadly as always. In case you missed it, there's a lovely review by Sheena
here.
And if you're not doin' nuthin' next Sunday 15th Oct, We're playing in the Rock Room at Spirit in Dublin, as part of the HardWorkingClassHeroes Festival, more info
here
And finally, here's some stuff in German about the gig we played in Hamburg as part of the Reeperbahn Festival a few weekends back. "Laut Gegen Nazis" mean "Volume Against Nazis", which was the kind of theme of the festival. Scroll down the page for info and a silly picture. Also, if anyone could translate this for us, that'd be tops!
'kay
more news later
Steveamanakick
How's it going. The single's sent off and going to print, so we'll have it
back in the next 2 weeks. We're launching it in Whelans, Dublin on the
18th of March, followed by a couple of more dates around the country.
We're also on a new compilation called "Music For LongEars 2" which will
be launched in Cork on March 24th. That'll be on in The Half Moon Club and
there'll be a bunch of bands playing across two rooms.
In other news...
We're not playing with the Violent Femmes in Limerick on Thurs 23rd, sorry
to anyone going to that expecting to see us, cos you won't. Beyond our
control I'm afraid.
More news to come!

That all seated Belltable Show was mad! Thanks to everybody for coming
along, and we hope it wasn't tooo weird for you all! We did our first ever acoustic performance at this show (4 songs, banjo and acoustic guitars)as well as our normal set, and we loved it, so we'll do it again sometime. In fact, we're doing a session for Dublin Radio Station, "Anna Livia" this Friday, so we'll let you know when that's been broadcast.MySpace!
We have a MySpace thing now. Dunno what it's for really, but everybody has one
or whatever...
SplitSingle
We did one of these a while back with Waiting Room, but we're doing another one
with another band now. More details as we get them. We're recording a new song
for it, one that didn't make it onto the album cos we forgot about it. This'll
be coming out in March, and it'll be great.

lousy.
We have some news about this new Nokia Phone thing and us, but we don't really know how to properly phrase it yet, so you'll have to hang on for that. However, there are some new mp3s gone up in our mp3 section. Two songs off our first album, and two off our new one, so click on Sounds to have a look/listen at/to them. Two new reviews in the reviews section (of all places...) It's from the lovely people at The Clare People (4 out of 5) and from HOTPRESS (9 out of 10/HOT FOR 2006).
So here are some gigs in January:

This will be happening in the Belltable Theatre in Limerick on Sat Jan 21st.

Some really bad news I'm afraid.
"We Are The Way Forward", the second album
by giveamanakick, will NOT be released this Fri Oct 14th as
promised. Due to
a major problem with our CD pressing plant, the release date had
to be
jigged about. However, both OutOnALimb Records and giveamanakick
have now
sorted things out, so don't worry about it. The new release date
is Friday Nov
11th. This means we won't be doing the Tower Records Instore
(Dublin) this
Friday Oct 14th ether, major apologies to all.
In other news...
We have returned from the UK,
where we played 14 gigs with The Undertones.
They were all fantastic. But, we're gonna keep all that news til
Friday,
when we'll be posting up revised and extra tour dates, full
album/dvd
updates and some other stuff. Check back then!
We regret to announce that we will NOT be playing with The Undertones this Friday 16th Sept in Derry. Sorries for that, but we will be playing there as part of our Irish Launch Tour Oct/Nov.
In other news, we're off to the UK next
week for the Undertones tour. We have our new album, it looks quite fancy, and
sounds alright too. The official release date is Friday Oct 14th, and that's the
day you'll be able to buy it in all the shops. We'll be doing an instore in
Tower Records in Dublin on that day too, but more about that when the time
comes.
We got a video made for "Bobby Dazzler", which is the first track off
"We Are The Way Forward", and it's nifty, so big thanks to Dave Magner
for that.
We have other news, but there's no need to tell it all just yet, lest we seem a
bit o'er eager.
Stay tuned for the Irish Tour dates yo
Lotta news for Folks this time, so read on...

So the second album is finally finished...kind of. Loads of stuff happened in between heading to the studio until now, but we'll wait for our new website to be up to disclose the horrible facts, as well as the new photos, tunes, vids and all manner of other hairy things. All that's left with the album is the mastering and finalisation of artwork, which shouldn't take too long. We're hoping to have the album out early August, so it's all go until then. In the meantime, we'll be doing a couple of select gigs around the country over the coming month or two. so here's some of 'em, we'll let you know as others pop up. 'cos they tend to.

Here we are, this will be our last update for another good while methinks. We're finished our recent spate of gigs, which was our last tour before the recording of the 2nd album. One date left to go:
Fri 18th March: Green Room (at Trinity Rooms) with special guest Niall Quinn (solo set) Big Ol' Paddy's Weekend Bash, and our last gig for months)
So we'll be playing our old set for the last time at this gig, plus a couple of new tunes for the laugh! It's gonna be followed by the excellent Pop Factory club so bring your dancing shoes. We're gonna head up to Donegal on the 22nd to record in this place with this guy, and we're pretty excited about it. We're looking forward to messing about with songs, and to try to get them to sound they way they sound in our heads. So expect banjos, bongos, electric mandolins, acoustic guitars, and a Jews Harp. oooooh yeeeeaaah!
A big thanks to everyone who came to the gig in Monaghan last Saturday! We seem to be blighted by some curse or other whenever we play up there, BUT, we will play there again. Special thanks to Daniel for the kit, and to Barry for his monetary assistance, and to Carl for being grrrrreat! We sold our last few copies of "Is It OK To Be Loud, Jesus?" at that gig, so unless you count the few copies still available here, our first album is now out of print.
So here are two new reviews (believe it
or not) of "Is It Ok..." from the UK. Go to reviews
page or links below

Right so, that's about it. We'll post up
some more info about the forthcoming album when we have more info for you. 'til
then, bubye
ps, we are sorry to see the departure of our dear van, Fergus. Fergus has served
us well over the past year, bringing us all around Ireland and the UK. But now,
it is time for us to part. He's just too big I'm afraid, so we're gonna sell him
to a good home and invest in a smaller version of his kind. We have no pics of
him as of now, but we will get some memorium cards printed up soon.

Fri July 23rd: Roisin Dubhs, Galway, w/ The Jimmy Cake

We got these cool t-shirts made too, so if you want to have a look at them, we'll have them at all gigs we ever play ever! Nice one
That appearance on TG4 didn't happen this
weekend like we said, so major sorries for you all from us. BUT! do not despair,
we will be making an appearance on POP4 OXEGEN Special on the 10th of July.
We'll be on playing a song called "Hatch 77" at around 4, which is
straight after our appearance at OXEGEN! So there y'are now. We'll be back
here during the week with some new tour dates just to express our sorries
Whew...
It's been a while since our last post, sorries about that. Once again we've been busy busy. We're buying this van you see, and we hoped to have a picture up so that you all could share in the joy of our pride. But sadly, 'tis not ready for the road yet. So next week, come back here and there'll be a lovely photo of our VAN!
In the meantime, we've been playing a load of gigs. Just finished a mini tour with GOLF, so thanks to everyone who came along to catch one of those shows. Also big thanks to The Soldiers Take Half and the excellent Captain Insano.
Right so, we just got in on the bill for UNSANE next Friday in the Cruaiscin Lan in Cork. So if you're around, and you're not at Shitallica, go here:

We've been keeping our heads low for a while, that's why you haven't heard from us, just in case you're wondering. We've been chilling, buying new equipment, and more importantly, writing a shedload of new songs! But we're all back and stuff now. So, you probably know about that OutOnALimb tour, if not look below. We're doing a cool gig in Dolans Warehouse this Friday 7th with special guests The Dudley Corporation, and it's only 6bucks including a Club afterwards! With Tom
Fitz! Yeah!
We were on the radio last Sunday night too, being interviewed and the like. It was the wonderful Mike Knightson show (Sundays, 8-10) on Limericks 95fm. He asked some questions and played some cds we brought in. Also, that 2fm session we did a while back is going to be repeated this week (may 4, 5, 6) on Dan Hegartys show, so listen out for that if you haven't heard it already.
That's all the fresh news for now. We've got a whole pile of new songs to be playing for all y'all, so come along to the gig in Dolans on Friday
if yer interested! More great news really soon. Seriously, it's gonna be great!
ps, if you're interested in finding out more about Steve's solo stuff (windings), e-mail here: windingswindings@hotmail.com

came along to see us. Thanks a million to Alan Walsh for making the fantastic video for us. And a thousand thanks to that wonderful girl who came up to us as soon as we had played the last chord of the last song to tell us that she thought we were shit. Yo!We're gonna be doing a split single with Waiting Room for the Road Relish singles club. These are Limited edition, vinyl only singles put out every few months by some fellas in Dublin. They're kinda collectors items, so be sure to get your mitts on one! Previous releases have included Melt Banana, Daemien Frost, Chalets, Jimmy Cake, Glen Hansard, David Kitt, Redneck Manifesto and a whole bunch more (www.roadrelish.com). They'll be available in the UK too, and we'll be doing a small tour of Ireland towards the end of March to promote it and sell it to you. Yo!
We won't be doing any gigs until we support Leatherface in The Cruaiscin Lan in Cork on the 11th March. But don't worry, we're not getting lazy! We're heading up to the RTE studios in Donnybrook to record 3 songs for a Session on 2FM. It'll be played on Cormac Battles Show at some stage. We're recording on the 22nd of Feb, so expect our beautiful sounds to be broadcast some time after that. Yo!
We've been getting a good bit of airplay on 2fm, Today FM and Radio Limerick (Sundays, 9-11, send this guy your cds!) So keep your ears peeled for the 'kick on the rayjo... And don't EVER call us "the kick"
Yo!
Next gigs:
11th March: Cruascin Lan, Cork: Leatherface, Fuktifino, Dangerfields,
Happy New Year one and all. Hope you had a great Christmas and got fat
eating chocolate and drinking alcohol until you puked violently and/or passed out. Hope you all saw us looking silly on telly too. We might post our performance up here at some stage, we may not though! The giveamanakick/ Rest split single (ooal1.5) launches went a treat. Cork and Limerick were both festively fabulous, although Limerick wins 'cos we had a giant inflatable snowman. PLUS Graham and Steve from Rest joined in playing our Chrsitmas song with us. A big thanks to everyone who came along to see our bands play, hope you enjoyed yourselves, and more so than that, hope you enjoyed your wonderful split single. "Merrry Christmas Everyone" is up now in our sounds section, but it'll only be there for a short while. Download it NOW!
Right, we're working on a short English tour for March. Not "working" like
the last time i said we were working, but "actually" working this time. We've 2 or 3 dates confirmed already, but we're looking for about 8 or so. So wish us luck, and if you're a promoter from England reading this, e-mail us now at giveamanakick@hotmail.com. Ah thank yaThere are rumblings in the outonalimb camp, news of new releases from new bands. Stay tuned to www.outonalimbrecords.com for more on that.

Check out our wonderful new reviews from Hot Press and Careless Talk. We've
2 fresh mp3s fo' yo asses here. Ooh yeah baby, we've nearly finished recording our version of "Merry Christmas Everyone" with RB for the Christmas split single. Just vocals to go, It's sounds good so far. We reckon we're gonna stick a song called "Suffer The Gowls" on the cd too. If you've heard us live, you might know the song as the one with the huge pause and unneccessarily quiet jazz ending. Rest will be coming up from Cork next week to record their song and then we'll packaging and burnin' til the 17th of November (Cruascin Lan) We'll be sticking posters up around town this weekend, so look out for them. Johnny from Rest designed them and they're great. As for our competition... Nobody got it right so far so I'm gonna narrow it down a bit. It is not any
of the following songs:1: Marmite Walk
2: Ger Canning
I repeat, neither of these songs contain a bass guitar. Only one song does, and at that, 'tis only for 32 consecutive seconds. So keep guessing 'cos we have a lovely cover designed for that prize CD.
Right, we're having a little gig break for a week or two until our support slot with The Black Eyes in the High Stool on the 11th Decmber. Then it's all action go for the Christmas Launch party which is gonna be the best thing ever. Make sure you're there!!!
til next time buckos
New mp3s! We've put Ger Canning And Say "No" To Sports up on our mp3 section. These songs are the first two songs off our album "Is It OK To Be Loud, Jesus?". Hope you enjoy, They're better quality than the two mp3s that are there already. In about two weeks, we'll take them down and put up another two from "Is It OK..." So if you're ridiculously lazy/ cheap and haven't bought our album yet, about now we be a good time to start downloading the mp3s. You could have the whole album by January!!!
You cheap bastard!!!
HERE'S THE COMPETITION!
We told you last time that we're gonna have a competition, so that's what we're
going to have. You need to listen to "Is it ok to be loud, Jesus" to
be able to answer this one:
THE QUESTION:
Many people think that there's a load of bass guitar on the songs on our album.
People have said it to us and we have denied it vehemently. However... there are
in fact 32 seconds of bass guitar on the album. It's a distorted semi
acoustic bass guitar played through a 2-watt mini-marshall amp. It features in
one song and one song only. Your job is to tell us what song it is in, and more
specifically, what 32 seconds! If you are not specific, you cannot win! We'll
pick the winner at random mind!
THE PRIZE: The prize is a previously unreleased giveamanakick song, "Horses For Courses". If you've seen us live, it may be more familiar to you as "the one with the keyboard". It was recorded by the masterful Mark O Connot a few months back and it sounds wonderful! As the winner, you will recieve a Cd with beautifully designed artwork and packaging, all made by me and Keith.
So e-mail your answers to giveamanaguess@hotmail.com
Only right answers can win.

Not much news this time. We've confirmed a slot with the magnificently noisy
Black Eyes this December 11th, in the High Stool, which ain't to far away if you think about it!
We're gonna be doing a gig in The Wolfhound, Barracks St, Cork (across from
Nancy Spains) on the 24th of October as part of the Cork Jazz weekend. We'll
be plyaing alongside the likes of Ten Past Seven, The Dogboy Conspiracy, El
Bastardo and more...
We're waiting on some big news that we really want to tell you, but
unfortunately, we can't... But as soon as we get confirmation, it'll be
posted up here post haste! So keep checking, we should know within a few
days...
giveamanakick will be doing a studio session for 2FM's Cormac Battle. His
show, Wireless, is on every night from 12 'til 2, so stay tuned to that in
case we pop up. This hasn't transpired yet because of some complications in
booking studio time, but we're "pencilled in" for October the 13th. More on
this later...
That's it for now. Don't forget Skuts niteclub every Wednesday night in The
Globe, Limerick. Only 5 yoyos in!!!
Check It!
K, got some good new news for you. We've decided it would be a good idea
to
blitz Cork city with giveamanakick-ness, this weekend, Thurs 25th, Fri
26th,
Sat 27th. Cork deserves it, what with their lovely accents and all... So
here
are the dates:
Thurs 25th: Half Moon Theatre (with Hanson Bros of Nomeansno)
Fri 26 th: Instore at Plugd Records, Washington St @5.30
Sat 27th: The Wolfhound, Barracks St, With Tophi
Hope to see some peeps at some of these shows!
We got some good news in the form of a phone call from the big boys at 2FM
earlier this week. giveamanakick have been asked to record a studio
session
for the Cormac Battle show (every night 12-2) The deal is, we record three
original songs and Cormac Battle plays them! Sounds pretty sweet... So
keep
listening to this show and at some stage over the next 3 weeks you'll hear
3
previously unrecorded giveamanakick songs!
I (Steve) have started up a Niteclub called Skuts. It happens every
Wednesday night in the Globe, Limerick. It's 5 yoyos to get in and on any
night you could expect to hear Four Tet, Junior Senior, 80s Matchbox
B-line
Disaster, Slayer, QOTSA, Cat Stevens, Michael Jackson, and some other
wasters...
Right so, I'm sure I'm forgetting some news, but that's what happens when
you only sleep 2 hours a day!
One last thing, our condolences to The Cranberries. They may not have been
some peoples cup of tea, but they certainly raised the bar for Limerick
Bands, and showed that 4 people from this city can actually get out and
get
the world to listen to them. I remember when I started off in my first
band
it was always "So are ye going to be the next U2 or wha', eh? *nudge
nudge*". It soon changed to, "So, are ye going to be following what's her
name, that O Riordan one, ye're going to be following then are ye?". Love
it
or hate it, The Cranberries gave Limerick a position on the Rock Music Map
(tm) of the World. We're sorry to hear of their demise.
PS check out www.hotpress.com as we are featured on the front page and are in current issue of said magazine!!
Next gig is in Quins, Ellen St. Limerick, Saturday 13th September with Ramirez, admission €3, more news to follow, check out the latest edition of hot press where giveamanakick are featured in 'The Headline Act' section.
Check out the new reviews
Hey how's it going, it's been a while since the last update but we've been busy busy busy with recording/mixing new stuff. Hopefully we might stick some of the mp3 demos on the site. Anyhoo we've got a few gigs lined up starting Saturday 16th at the Coolie festival Kilcool, Wicklow (more on thumped) with Puget Sound, Coldspoon Conspiracy, Kid Blunt, Foot in Mouth and more. The festival sounds like its going to be fairly cool, free cds, fanzines camping and stuff, so if your around that direction, drop by. Next gig is Wednesday 20th in the Savoy Bar, Limerick, apparently it'll be the last gig there in order to make way for much needed appartments?!?! Not sure who else is playing but there's bound to be copious other Limerick bands. Next day we will be going on a mini tour of Ireland with Electric Eel Shock. Will also be playing with the Dudley Corporation and Large Mound.
Thu 21-Aug-2003

First
things first. We want to thank everyone that came to our Album Launch in The
Globe on the 3rd of July. It ended up being a great night and
everyone, even us, really enjoyed it. Thanks so much for coming, we hope you
like the CD! Extra special thanks to Mrs Mullane for giving us so much help with
the munchies, Aisling Geary for helping us decorate the place and for manning
(womanning?) the merchandise stall all that night and the rest of the tour,
Richard and Albert for running about the place and performing multiple tasks at
the one time, All the Ryans and the Lawlers for their huge support, and again,
everyone that came along to see us! Thanks to everyone that put on our gigs and
put us up, we really appreciate it!
As
I was saying, the tour went well. We sold more Cds, people came to the gigs and
left happy. There was a raving lunatic at one of the Dublin shows, which was
nice. Joss is the nicest person in the world. There was a fine imposed upon us
in Galway because the Co. Council found some of our posters stuck on poles,
which, apparently, isn’t nice. Our Cds are for sale in almost every
independent record shop in the cities we played in. The reviews of our album are
looking fairly positive, so far…
So
what are we up to now?
Well,
we’re taking a really short break, then we’re playing with Jet-Sol
this Saturday 26th in the High Stool. Things should kick
off around 9.30. Then we’re gonna set about finishing some new
recordings we’ve been working on with Richard, and theeennn…We’re going on
tour with Electric Eel Shock!!! WooHoo!!!!
That’s
enough news for now, We’ll be back soon
PS,
check out our new reviews section!!! PPS We are playing with Berkeley in the High Stool on Friday 1st August
Did anyone find a leatherman wave multi-purpose tool at the launch gig in the globe on 3rd July. If so can you email us asap as we need it for the tour, thanks
"giveamanakick are Keith (drums, vocals, can of coke, sugar bowl) and Steve (guitar, vocals, belly slaps). Having formed from the still twitching corpses of Limerick bands, Calzino Fiasco and Tooth, they’ve been deafening audiences around Ireland for about a year now with their own unique brand of noisy, riff-mangling Rock n’Roll. Having played with various rock luminaries and NME darlings such as The Icarus Line, Ex-Girl, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Poke, Electric Eel Shock, The Soledad Brothers and Rocket From the Crypt, giveamanakick have decided to record and unleash their musical wrath on the unsuspecting public.
Having drawn comparisons to bands like the Pixies, Husker Du, Quicksand and Helmet, they knew it was time… Titled “Is it ok to be loud, Jesus?”, Keith and Steve both agree that this is perhaps their best debut album yet. Recorded between a cosy cottage in the suburbs, and a decaying squat in Limerick city by the legendary Mark O’ Connor, the album is a sprawling 10-track affair weighing in at 32 whole minutes. Those who have heard it are known to have wept with joy and confusion for days. Featuring such live favourites as significock, Ger Canning, and Darko Filopovic (released as a split single with Mr. Creosote in 2002 on Rockhopper Records), the album rocks like a not easily definable thing.
Leagues O’ Toole of Networks 2’s “No Disco” has said that “giveamanakick are one to watch out for in 2003”. We’re not sure if he was taking the piss. Hot Press magazine lauded giveamanakick’s live show as having “kicked unmerciful ass, they’re as good as anything we’ve seen up and down the country without a doubt!”. Unfit for Consumption Fanzine reckon that everybody should “Grab this (album) with both hands when it comes out, it’s a potential classic” Rock.
