I have been playing some of these songs for years - but I may well have been using the wrong chords all along. These tabs are meant to just give a (very) basic idea of the chord changes in the songs and suggest a few things that may help when performing them on a solo acoustic guitar. If you're looking for more detailed tabs, check out the fine examples on display on www.theframes.ie (check it out anyway, it's a great site). This list of songs isn't complete...To my eternal shame I don't actually own a copy of Fitzcarraldo so those tabs are just from memory and there are many songs that I can't remember. I do have some songs off Another Love Song but I haven't really listened to them yet. The bulk of the stuff here is off Dance The Devil and For The Birds. I'm a very lazy tabber so I've left out a lot of little details...sorry. It might be hard to get the rhythms from looking at these tabs, but experiment a little and use your imagination. If anyone has a request for a tab that isn't featured here, or wants more detail on one of ones below, mail me and I'll do my best. If anyone has suggestions, corrections etc. etc. please let me know at scooby@skynet.ie. //Readme A list Frames Songs that I know exist...(tabbed ones marked with a star star :) If this tab develops, hopefully people will find the time to fill in the blanks. You should view this as a "tabs wanted" list. =========================================== Album: FITZCARRALDO (Trevor Horn version) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tracks: ** Revelate Angel At My Table ** Fitzcarraldo Evergreen Red Chord In This Boat Together Say It To Me Now Monument Your Face Giving It All Away Denounced ============================================== Album: DANCE THE DEVIL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tracks: Perfect Opening Line ** Seven Day Mile ** Pavement Tune ** Plateau ** Star Star ** The Stars Are Underground ** God Bless Mom Hollocaine ** Rent Day Blues ** Neath The Beeches ** Dance The Devil =============================================== Album: FOR THE BIRDS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tracks: In The Deep Shade ** Lay Me Down ** What Happens When The Heart Just Stops ** Headlong ** Fighting On The Stairs ** Giving Me Wings ** Early Bird ** Friends And Foe ** Santa Maria ** Disappointed ** Mighty Sword ================================================== Album: ANOTHER LOVE SONG ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tracks: All Things Must Pass ** Another Love Song Live Forever ** Martha ** Masquerade ** Picture Of Love ** Right Road Wrong Road Telegraph Poles ** The Dancer ** The Waltz ** Before You Go =================================================== Album: I AM THE MAGIC HAND EP ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tracks: Early Riser God Bless Mom (Original Version) The Stars Are Underground (Country Version) Song For Paul Turbit ============= ODDS 'N SODS: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ** Rise Life's A Gas A Caution To The Birds Look Back Now Roger (From Original Fitzcarraldo release) Country Song Sick Beds Steal My Body Home Taking The Hard Way Out One Irish Rover Tomorrow's Too Long ** New Partner (Will Oldham Cover) ** Eternal Life (Jeff Buckley) ** Last Goodbye (Jeff Buckley) Sabotage (Beastie Boys) Debaser (Pixies) Be My Enemy (Waterboys) ** Hotellounge (be the death of me) - dEUS ** Buzzin' Fly - TIM BUCKLEY ** Raglan Road - VARIOUS ARTISTES ** Two Little Boys - D.HAWKINS & H.HAWKINS ** Love Will Tear Us Apart - JOY DIVISION ** Jane Says - JANE'S ADDICTION ** Another Love Song ** ======================= >> Tabbed By Batgimp << Intro/Verses/Choruses: G, C Bridge (just before the "I'll sing you another love song" bit): B, A, B, A ...there are stops and starts in the song that you can pick up from the CD, but these are the general chords. ** Martha ** ============ >> Tabbed By Batgimp << Intro/Verses: G, C, A, C (possibly the A is actually a G, but this sounds better to me) Chorus ("I'm just waiting for you..." bit): Em, D, G, C, G, C ...last time round in this bit, play: Em, D, C ** Masquerade: ** ================= >> Tabbed By Batgimp << Mostly: D, E, A, D, E, A, D, E, A, F#m, G, A. Change ("I was always making songs for her" bit): G, D, A, G. ** Picture Of Love ** ===================== >> Tabbed By Batgimp << Intro/Parts of Verse: Fingerpick D, A, G Ok, during the verses there's a bit that seems to go: D, A# ...but it sounds like there's another chord in there somewhere. Experiment. Then the Chorus ("We were the picture of love..."): D, A, G, A#, A#/A, G (A/A# is E588xxxe) ...after playing the chorus riff a few times, play D, A, G and then back to the verse. ** RightRoadWrongRoad ** ======================== >> Tabbed By Batgimp << Intro/Verse e -------- -------- -------- ---2-2-2 -5-0-3-0 E -3------ Play this until the drums kick in, then switch to full chords: G, Asus2, C For the "tumblin' down" bit, switch to half chords again. ** The Dancer ** ================ >> Tabbed by Batgimp << This entire seems to be based on C, F It might help to play the F like so: Ex33010e ** The Waltz ** =============== >> Tabbed By Batgimp << The song is mainly G, C played in that funny rhythm. Every so often, it sounds kinda cool to "walk" the C down to Am via a B note between changes. During the "chorus" of the song, play Am, C followed by G, C a few more times, followed by Am, C etc. etc. ** Before You Go ** =================== >> Tabbed By Batgimp << This song is quite similar to Picture of Love. I haven't got it fully tabbed yet, but it's based on the chords D, A, G and a strange A# chord. Help would be appreciated. ** Rise ** ========== >>Tabbed By Batgimp << Main riff: Bm, then octaves on C#, D, then A chord, G chord. Don't strum so much as pick the chords. Then the chorus is: Em, Bm, A, G ** FITZCARRALDO ** ==================== >>>> Tabbed by Batgimp <<<< Intro/Verses: F#m, D Chorus: A, Bm, C#m, D Things to try/note Sometimes (particularly the intro) it is handier to play the F#m like this - e-0 B-0 G-2 D-4 A-4 E-x And alternate the e string during the D occasionally like this - e-2 - 0 - 4 - 2 B-3 G-2 Same base chord D-0 A-x E-x And occasionally during the verses (maybe "my ship was sold right up..." bit) try this in the F#m, D transition (play these notes on the low E string) - F#m -> G#, A, E -> D ** REVELATE ** ================ >>>> Tabbed by Batgimp <<<< Intro/Verses: C#m, E, A, F#m Chorus: E, F#m, G#, A, B Bit after 2nd Chorus: C#m, A Variation in 3rd Chorus ("Sometimes it's easier just to..."): F#m, G#, A Then ("Sometimes I, Sometimes I"): B Then the "Redeem yourself" bit which starts on a C#m and descends. ** SEVEN DAY MILE ** ===================== >>>> Tabbed by Batgimp <<<< Intro/Verses: G, D, A "It's a breeze..." bit: G A G A G A D A "Well this might take a while..." bit: Bm, G, D, A Things to try: Intro/Verse: To replicate the bass/violin contribution on solo acoustic, try this: Over the G (and try palm muting the E string notes) - e- B- G- D- A-------5-4---4-5-4-5 E-0-2-3-----3-------- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Repeat a few times (ie, play E-0-2- bit once only) Then over the D, A change: e- B- G- D---7------7- A-5---5--4---4 E- "It's a breeze" bit, try playing full chords for the G and A and play the A as: e-0 B-3 G-2 D-2 A-0 E-x For the spacey bit in the middle just pedal on G and pick some strings. ** PAVEMENT TUNE ** ==================== >>>> Tabbed by Batgimp <<<< Intro: Repeat the following a few times: e|----------------------------------------------- -|----------------------------------------------- -|----------------------------------------------- -|---11-11-11-11-9--9--11------------------------ -|---0--0--0--0--0--0--0--9-h-11-11-11-11-11----- E|------------------------0---0--0--0--0--0------ Verses: Play the first half of the intro riff (the bit with the open A string) followed by a few big ringing E majors. Play this a few times. Then ("I can imgaine what they'd say" bit): e|----------------------------------------------- -|----------------------------------------------- -|----------------------------------------------- -|----------------------------------------------- -|------6-----6---7------------------------------ E|--4-4---4-4---4-5------------------------------ Play this a few times and mix in the first half of the intro riff in between each one. Then onwards to the chorus...("I want my life to make more sense") Chorus: All I can say for definite is that the chorus begins on an E chord and ends on an A chord. In between I normally just add F# and G# notes on the low E string but I've a feeling there's more going on than this, so... E->F#, G#->A (pick some of the bassier strings in the E and A rather than strumming them). Bridge: This bit is tricky. There's some frenetic muted riffing on high strings most of the way through it, but the chord structure *seems* to be... C#m, B, F#m I'm not entirely sure about the F#m, you might prefer to use A. ** PLATEAU ** ============= >>>> Tabbed by Batgimp <<<< I have something of a mental block when it comes to tabbing this song, but here goes... Intro: e|--------------------- -|--1---1---1---1------ -|----0---0---0---0---- -|--------------------- -|--------------------- E|--1-------3---------- Repeat the above a good few times using finger picking (a thumb comes in handy for the F note). Rest of song: Most of the song just alternates between an F and a G. For the two tense "breaks" in the song, fiddle with an Am like so: e-3--2 B-1--1 G-0--0 D-2--2 A-0--0 E-x--x Alternate between the two chords above for these breaks. And then you get to the "Me myself again" bit where the chords go: C, F, C, F, G, F And then back to F and G. Things to try/note: Try leaving the G string open during ALL the chords in the song. ** STAR STAR ** ================ >>>> Tabbed by Batgimp <<<< Most of the song: E, B, A, B Change: C#m, A, B, C#m, A, B Things to try: If you can, try playing it with open barre chords like this: e--0--0--0--0 B--0--0--0--5 G--1--8--6--6 D--2--9--7--6 A--2--9--7--4 E--0--7--5--x E B A C#m If you have a lead guitarist try and get them to play the air of "My Heart Will Go On" during the first lead break, and variations on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star during the breakdown. I've seen the Frames tack the chorus of Deus' HotelLounge(Be the Death of Me) at the end of StarStar. They do it so well, it sounds like they wrote it themselves. If you want to try a rough approximation of it the lyrics are... "You move me/You move me/You move me round and round I guess /Take it back, you're analog/It's on the other side of this" And the easiest way to play it is E, A, E, A, E, A, E, B ** THE STARS ARE UNDERGROUND ** =============================== >>>> Tabbed by Batgimp <<<< This song is based around some very fucked up E chords. I'm not quite sure what they are but here's some ideas. For the verses try something like e--x B--x G--4 D--2 A--2 E--0 or... e--x B--x G--8 ... alternating this note with 9 and 10 occasionally D--9 A--7 E--0 Anyway, whichever version of E you go for, the verses consist of a few strums of the chord followed by some heavy Xing (letting your fingers rest lightly on the strings and strumming) and this is repeated until... "I don't know if it's real" bit: If you have a lead guitar it plays octaves on the following notes... B, C#, E And underneath the octaves play the following chords (the E is a high E chord, E0799xxe): B, F#, E. Then the chorus which might have the following chords: E, F#, A, E(high, see above). Then the outro (does this remind anyone else of Kashmir or is it just me ?): Play the second version of the E suggested for the verses and downstrum it aggressively. Listen for the variations and use the suggested ones above. ** GOD BLESS MOM ** ==================== VERSION 1 >>>> Tabbed by Batgimp <<<< Once again, not the easiest song to tab, this is the version from the EP and the one they sometimes play live. I think the album version is in a different key. I freely admit this is a terrible tab. I'm sure there's a better way... Picked Intro e- B- G-----7-----6-7 D---7-----7---- A-5-----5------ E- ...or something to that effect...then the drums enter, and the base of the D-chord goes: A-5-4-2-2-1------ E-----------6-5-4- ...while still picking the higher part of the figure above (confused?). I can't do this properly the way I've just tabbed it but I presume it can be done using open strings in a different key/with a capo. Anyway, then the heavy guitars come in and there's a descending chord progression along the lines of: e------------ B------------ G-7-7-4------ D-7-7-4-8-7-6 A-5-4-2-8-7-5 E-------6-5-4 Much furious downstrumming here and hold the B in the middle for a few beats. Ok, and now we get to the verse, which is pretty much the same as the intro with the same descending base. Then it goes all scary for a bit and glen mashes his guitar, I think he uses some fucked up version of a D- chord, my advice here ? Experiment (ie, I don't know). Then it's business as usual until we get to the chorus which might be based around: D, A, B, G ...in various permutations. And that's about as far as I've gotten. There is the germ of the song here somewhere, but it's very incomplete. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX VERSION 2 >>>> Tabbed by John Canavan <<<< When played live Glen uses a capo on 2nd fret although the recorded version sounds like it's done without a capo, either way sounds cool. :) This tab isn't anywhere near perfect it's just to give you an idea of how to play the song.
