I graduated from UL in 2000 with a B.Tech in Information Technology and Telecommunications. I'm originally from Tralee, Co.Kerry, but I now live in Athens, Ohio in the USA.
I'm currently a Senior Software Engineer at Nortel, working on the Nortel VPN Gateway product line. In my spare time, I'm working on a number of Linux / Virtualization / Unified Computing
open source platforms for my new startup Carbon Mountain LLC.
You can find some of my open source related articles on o3 magazine.
Historical Stuff:
I worked at OneNet Communications on co-op, took a year off from UL to finish projects there. OneNet was a large regional ISP based in Cincinnati, Ohio. I worked as a NOC Engineer, supporting both the systems and networking side of their business. Got to do some cool stuff, like working with Alteon WebSystems on Layer 4-7 switching solutions, deploying one of the first commercial DSL installations at Star Bank, troubleshooting a wide range of networking issues and getting to deploy one of the first customers in a metro-wide DSL solution.
My FYP was a PowerPC boot loader for Linux.
I worked as a Sustaining Engineer at Alteon WebSystems / Nortel until September 2006. Worked on the original tigon based Alteon products, as well as the next generation Nortel Application Switch platforms. Recreating customer issues, troubleshooting the code, implementing the fix, and then testing the firmware. Mostly C and some mips/ppc assembler.
Became the lead Sustaining Engineer at Aruba Networks working on next-gen Enterprise WiFi products, Linux based. Went through the IPO, and left in April 2008.
Returned to Nortel in May 2008, Senior Software Engineer and IPT lead for the Nortel Application Switch, and next-gen VSS product line until March 2009. Transferred to the Nortel VPN Gateway product after Nortel sold Alteon to Radware in April 2009.
I live just outside Athens, Ohio, have two kids and when I'm not working on computer stuff, I'm working on cars. Have a 2007 Mazda RX-8, a 1989 Corvette and a 1979 Corvette L-82. Expensive, but fun hobby! :)
