United vs Benfica

United were almost there.The European Cup was theirs if they could beat a Benfica side containing the talented Eusebio.

The final was played in front of 100,000 fans at Wembley wondering if United could win their first European title.

Due to a colour clash,United were forced to play their most important match of their history in an all blue strip.

The first half was a dour affair with the scores deadlocked at 0-0.The second half was more exciting.Bobby Charlton scored the first goal of the match after a Tony Dunne cross.United had the chance to wrap the game up when Sadler missed a glorious chance right at the end.Benfica made United pay for that miss when Graca pounced to level the scores.

In fact,Benfica could have snatched an unlikely win if Eusebio weren't denied but for a excellent save by Stepney.
