Just in case you missed it earlier, my name is Pat O'Loughlin and I'm a 21 year
old student here at the University of Limerick (or UL for short). I'm currently
doing a Grad Dip in Computer Engineering having completed four years of an
undergrad course in Computer Systems. It's kinda strange being in this course,
as I'm mixed in with quite a few other courses of varying years, guess at 21 I'm
beginning to feel like a bit of an old man, sitting in the same lectures as 17
year olds but such is life.
By trade I'm a programmer, mostly C and C++ but I also dabble in VB, perl and tcl, I'm currently learning java as part of my course and hopefully a small bit of assembly. My interest in programming began way before college when I went messing with Qbasic on an old 386 of mine and has grown from that. My current project is a online news reader, which began with simple file I/O and moved onto implementing the NNTP protocol. As my knowledge of computing has grown so too has the style and general format of my code, I'm always looking back at code I wrote in my earliest years programming wondering how I managed to actually write that stuff.... I'm from the small quite village of Quin (one n), in County Clare. In a former life I played both hurling and football for the local GAA club, Clooney. Although having a big glass front window facing the goal on the front pitch (lawn) at home often lead to a few broken windows :-P. I've also been known to make a few guest appearances playing front lawn soccer for Carnaclocha FC Guess that's enough about me for a while. |
