MESSAGE BOARD

Cogratulations to the Limerick Senior Footballers who yesterday created their own bit of history by beating the mighty Kingdom in competitive Senior Football for the first time in 100 years!! That win now puts Limerick on top of Division 2A of the Allianz FL. Lining out at no. 12 was Stephen Kelly who scored a point and had a fine game. Billy Lee is a selector and Stephens cousin Shane would have been involved except for injury. Well done lads!!

On behalf of the club, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tony and Judy Ahern on the birth of their daughter. Also, congratulations to Vincent and Aileen Sheehan on the recent birth of their third boy. Best wishes to all.

History was made yesterday as, for the first time ever, a member of the Newcastle West Camoige club, won an Ashbourne Cup medal. Meadhbh Nash played at midfield for UCC as they eventually got the better of the holders, Waterford IT, on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-04. Well done Meadhbh!!

Hearty congratulations to the Junior A hurlers who won the County Final in Killmallock on Saturday last, October 20th. They beat a gallant Caherline team 1-16 to 0-7. They now will play in the Munster Junior Club Championships, (hosted by the Bruff club), early in 2002 as Limericks representatives.

No sooner was he home when he was gone again!! James Nash left for Germany this morning until June 2002 as part of his degree course. We hope to see him back in Newcastle West colours on his return.

Also in the past few weeks, the club have lost the considerable services of two rising stars. Both James Nash and Brian Quirke have gone to summer in Nantucket and England, respectively. Hopefully, their will still be games to play when they get home!!

Best wishes are extended from all at the club to Tony Doyle, who has returned to Chicago after a time at home. Hopefully it won't be too long 'til we see him in a Newcastle West jersey again!! This week also sees the club loosing three other stalwarts, this time Australia is the venue....Tommy Quinn, John Kelly and Liam Sheehy are off down under for a year.

Congratulations to Shane Kelly on winning a McGrath Cup medal with the Limerick Senior Football team on Thursday night, May 3rd. Playing at half forward, they beat Tipperary, 0-13 to 1-07 in Clonmel. Well Done Shane.

Best wishes to the Senior Football team who play Athea on Friday the 9th of June in Abbeyfeale, in the final of the Superbites sponsored West Senior Football Championship Final.A very tough game is in prospect if the team are to follow in the footsteps of the 1998 team, who beat St. Kierans in the final.

I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the club, to wish all hurling, football and camoige players, the very best of luck in their Junior Cert and Leaving Cert exams.
