JUNIOR Bs COMPLETE 4-IN-A-ROW WEST HURLING TITLES !! West JUNIOR B Hurling Championship Final,October 10TH,1999,at RATHKEALE. Newcastle West.....................................................................................2-15 ST. MARYS....................................................................................................2-11 A good sized attendence sweltered in Mick Neville Park for this final. They saw a hard fought, well contested game, which started slowly and built to an exciting finale. We played into the dressing room goals in the first half, scored two important goals from a sharp forward line and led 2-06 to 0-07 at half time. To most observers, neutral and partisan alike, James Hennessy had one hand on the trophy already. We sought the coolness of the state-of-the-art dressing rooms at the break, while St. Marys took their sós out of doors. The sojourn in the sun did the Rathkeale lads no harm and their supporters could be heard in the Bog Garden in the 35th minute as they took the lead,2-07 to 2-08. Not dismayed by this swift change of fortune, the Magpies lifted their game, struck over some fine points, soaked up some very intense late pressure and carved out a well deserved win. There were excellent displays all round by our lads. All 15 played their parts in the win, while deserving of an extra star are no. 7 James Hennessy (Capt),Trevor Neville at no. 5 and Liam Cremin(1-08) at no. 15. Well done to all and to Manager Mort O'Connor and selectors Tommy Quinn and Liam (Wally) Keane.
