Ógra Gears up
for Elections
13th February 2007
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you
all back for the new semester and the next meeting will be on Monday in the
Students union, where details for the Ard-Fheis will be discussed…Any members interested
in attending can put their name down at the meeting. Costs should be no more
than €40
Last Monday the 12th of February saw
candidates for the Ógra Fianna Fáil National Youth Committee descend on UL in
rapturous fashion. At a well attended Hustings; candidates for the positions of
Leas-Cathaoirleach, 3rd Level Ardchomhairle, Munster Ardchomhairle
and one of the Munster
3rd Level
candidates give a broad overview of their plan for Ógra over the
next 18 months. Unfortunately, our own candidate for Munster
3rd Level missed the train from Dublin and was unable to attend as a result.
We heard great noises from all candidates; some different, some the same, but
all candidates with their hearts in the right place. We were treated to the
delights of Steven Dixon’s fondness for the chocolate €uros
used for recruitment and Eoin O’Niallan’s
troubles with understanding accounting conversations…. “We do need more people
from courses other than Law and Business…I’m lost when people start to talk
shop at meetings…there’s rarely someone for me to talk about steel and concrete
with”. The cumann and our guests then took a customary trip to a local
night-time establishment, all enjoying it immensely; with the uptake in thoses participating in “rock the boat” bringing a fiendish
enjoyment to the night, ensuring that these guests will be back again for more in the not so
distant future. The Con Colbert Cumann will hold a 3rd Level weekend
at UL on the 9th and 10th of March and we expect to see
all the same faces and some new ones too. But between now and then; elections
will have taken place at the National Youth Conference on Saturday the 17th
of February, and congratulations to all successful candidates.
