New Technologies
Sony V Microsoft
Sony V Microsoft is a battle that has been going on for a while now with the newest front on the battle between the two giants coming to a head with the
Xbox 360 and the
PS3.
There is no right or wrong answer to the question who is better only personal opnion. My opnion lies with Sony. Sony have been in this game along time and when they came into the market fresh back in the days of the
Super Nintendo, they absolutely kicked ass. Playstation has become a household name for a brand like the
Hoover /
Vacuum Cleaner. Parent talk about getting their kids a Playstation simply meaning a games console.
That kind of brand recognition combined with the impressive specs for the PS3 will in my opnion justify the high release price and cause Sony to rule the market yet again. Microsoft got a few things right. They kept the wireless controlers, the backwards compatibility and they released it on time. Not 2 years late like Sony with the PS3. However the PS2 beat the Xbox when the Xbox was way better spec'd, now the PS3 stands like a giant beside the Xbox 360. It houses a
Blue Ray drive, which will itself boost sales, and it has several benifits that don't require a
HD TV to enjoy. Anyway it all remains to be seen when the PS3 is released in March 2007.

Linux V Microsoft
I found a video of the new 3D desktop type thingy available on Linux. I suspect my laptop won't run it quite as smoothly..... hmmmm... might need a new laptop. Anyway check it out
here.
Niall.Well I looked at this vid and then at one for
Windows Vista and I have to say the 3D one looks way more impressive. I was thinking of getting new fangled laptop as well. Gonna wait until jan/feb though!!

Handy Gadgets
The SD card reader USB key...
Niall actually picked this up for me. I was looking for a 1Gb mini SD card for my breif flirtation with the Nokia 6280i and Niall picked up this handy little device. It is a caseing to go around the miniSD to make it into a USB key. So it will work as a CardReader for
SD,
miniSD and
microSD. It is a little bigger than a standard USB Key but all in all a nice package.
Here it isDave.

Mobile Phones
Sony V Nokia
Last week I got a new Mobile.
I have been playing around with getting a new mobile for months now. I tried the
Nokia 6280i. It's a beautiful phone but I had to subscribe to the "3" network. I tried it but it really just didn't work for me. 4 weeks with them and I could use my phone for about one week of that.
No thank you!!
So last week thanks to my dad's upgrade I got the
Sony K800i. I just have to say I love it. Seriously. I don't think it will ever turn as many heads as the
Motorola E680i (The touch screen made that phone look real fancy).
Anyway where was I going with this. I discovered that the K800i has a remote control feature that allows me to control my laptop via bluetooth with my phone... How cool is that?

In July my
Nokia 3220 - a wonderfully camp phone - finally decided it was time to head for the big phone skip in the sky. I was delighted because for years I had been treatening to buy a decent phone but I was always just waiting for the new even better phone. Now that my 3220 had bit the bullet I finally had to buy a new Phone - The
Nokia 6280i. I decided to go with
3. Probably not my best ever Idea but the Phone I got in that package was truely the phone I was after. I now spend all my time (even when I'm on the toilet) downloading little video clips of the news and films and cartoons and stuff. Did I mention I love the phone. Oh and it's a
3G phone and it's a Gb mp3 player and .... no seriously it's cool.
