1.1 The Competition will consist of a Men's & Women's
pool.
1.2 Teams will play against each other in the group
in a 'round robin' format.
1.3 The pool standing will be determined by awarding
3 points for a win, 1 for a loss & -3 for a forfeit.
1.4 If two of more teams finish on the level points
after the pool games then FIBA rules will be used to
determine the final standings.
1.5 If a team withdraws from or is expelled from the
competition then all games in which that team participated
in will be deemed null & void and will not be included
in the standings.
1.6 All games will be played using a four-quarter system.
1.7 The pool games will be seven minutes per quarter
with one-minute breaks at the end of each quarter and
eight minutes break for half time. All other rules are
in accordance with FIBA rules.
1.8 The Women's & men's Semi Finals & Finals
will be in accordance with FIBA rules & Regulations.
2.1 Fixtures will be posted on the host college's website
www.ulbasketball.skynet.ie
The following actions must be accomplished 20 minutes
before the game time:
- Both teams must fill up the score sheet. This will
include names and numbers.
- Only players who are registered at the start of
the competition are eligible to play. Any illegal
players/ or a player with an out of date ID card will
not be allowed to play until their college has verified
that they are a current student.
- Home teams will wear light coloured shirts and shorts;
the visiting team will wear the darker strip. Teams
can work out a compromise provided both coaches agree.
The home team must change in the event of a colour
clash.
- All team members of the team must wear official
college strip.
- The strip must be numbered 4 - 15 as per FIBA regulations.
The following actions must be accomplished 15 minutes
before the game time:
- The home team sits on the left of the table and
warms up in that basket.
4.1 If a team does not have five players available
to play at the scheduled starting time the referee will
delay the game for fifteen minutes to allow for additional
players to arrive.
4.2 If after fifteen minutes the team still does not
have five players they will lose the game by forfeit
and the score will be recorded as 20 - 00. The team
that forfeits will receive -3 points in the league table.
4.3 During the game the coach, assistant coach, players
and a manager may sit on the bench.
4.4 If a game begins and is disrupted for any reason
the referee will take the score sheet at the point of
the disruption.
- The organising Committee will investigate the circumstances
that led to the disruption.
- The game will not be resumed if both coaches agree
to let the score stand at the point of disruption
as the final score.
4.5 If a team does not show up for a game and the executive
does not accept the case made by the team they will
be fined a minimum of €100.00
5.1 If a college wishes to appeal a matter arising
from a game they must sign the Scoresheet (Under Protest)
before the referee signs the scoresheet. They must then
put their case forward to the organising committee.
6.1 Colleges, players, coaches & officials may
be fined or suspended for any disciplinary incident,
which occurs during competition.
6.2 The colleges or persons involved in an incident
have the right to submit written evidence in their defence,
which will be studied by the organising committee.
6.3 Any disciplinary action taken by the executive
will take effect immediately after the decision is made
unless an appeal is lodged.
6.4 Any player who is suspended for a match may not
play, coach or sit on the team bench.
6.5 Any coach who is suspended may not sit on the team
bench, or have any communication with his/her team after
thirty mins prior to the scheduled starting time of
the fixture. He/ she may be present at the venue unless
otherwise advised by the organising.
6.7 If a college intentionally fields a suspended player
they will be liable to disciplinary action from the
organising committee.
7.1 All students attending full time courses for the
competition academic year in any of the participating
colleges are eligible to represent that college.
7.2 College Id's will be checked and cross-referenced
from the College List.
8.1 The trophies presented to the winners of the competitions
remain the property of the varsity. Each college who
receives a trophy is responsible for the care and safe
return of the same. If a trophy is lost or damaged the
college will be charged for repair or replacement.
