Beckham hits our screens
This week, the controversial film "The Passion of the Beckham" opens in Irish cinemas. The film, which had such working
titles as "The Life of Beckham" and "Becks, lies and no video tape" is the story of one man's love for everybody
- especially senseless women. It also centres on Beckham's wife, who defends him to the last, lest her own career
should end up in ruins.
It has been condemned for it's graphic scenes of violence such as the infamous kicking out at Diego Simeone in 1998, a Kung-Fu style attack
against Necaxa player, Jose Milian in the World club championships,
and a relentless assault on the intelligence of people who like to read newspapers for genuine news content. Also
depicted in the movie are the greedy sportswear and mobile phone companies who continue to exploit his image in every
possible way. The film eventually ends with Beckham being crucified by the blood thirsty media.
The film has also been criticised for its anti-Scottish undertones. There is, for example, a scene depicting a
Scot savaging Beckham's face with fashionable footwear of the time. There is also a scene which shows the Real
Madrid president Florentino Perez denying Beckham 3 times with the lines "Never, never, never. Nobody at Real
has ever spoken about Beckham and I don't want to start now", just before the Scot betrays him
for 30 million pieces of silver.

Just some of the violence inherent in this Grotesque film
The film is very true to the recorded events, with a very simple script of monosyllablic sentences and a wardrobe of
girly clothes and ridiculous hairstyles.
To coincide with the release of the blockbuster, VodaPhone have launched a new advertising campaign with each ad
featuring the line "How the f*** are you?"
